Soybean prices surged on Friday bolstered by the release of Informa’s production report Friday Morning. The surprise in the report was corn which they projected to be at 164.8 for this coming USDA production report due out Friday of this week. A second report showed Informa’s expected final yield of 158.5 bpa which shocked the market. Informa’s bean yield was a benign 44.1 bpa; Volume on Friday was moderate. Soybeans traded 124,053, Meal 59,652 and Oil 63,605. Funds were net buyers of an estimated 6,000 Soybeans, 3,500 oil and 2,500 Meal.
Opening call lower. USDA announced export sales of Soybean oil today. 40,000 mt to China, 21,000 to Peru and 29,500 to unknown destinations. After a 3 day holiday weekend and good harvest weather over the weekend expect the harvest progress to show in this afternoons crop progress report. The believe is that the Corn crop is finished and bean harvest reports will begin in the south. Commitment of traders report shows index funds long 156,796 up 433, Meawl 15,620 up 2,383 and oil 81,709 down 1,620. Hedge funds sold 3,453 and added 5,232 meal and sold 12,817 oil. Soybean open interest stands at 517,980 and Index and Hedge funds hold 283,255 of that. After the close we will see this weeks crop condition report. Most think the soybean conditions decline slightly. Look to come away from length today after Fridays rally and wait to buy November soybeans at 1022 to 1020 area. Risk a close below 1020. Outside markets should pressure the market early, $USD is trading 48 higher, Crude oil is $1.00 lower and the Dow Futures are trading 51 lower.
